Born in Machilipatnam, G.V.Prabhakar was always  inclined and curious about music as a child. Recognizing his interest, parents Sri G V B Subbaraya Sastry (Renowned Advocate and Trade Union Leader) and Smt G Meenakshi encouraged to start learning classical vocal music in Carnatic style at the age of 10. GArikipati Venkata Prabhakar gave his first stage performance at the age of 13 and has performed at more than 1400 public concerts in classical and light music till date.

G.V. Prabhakar holds a Bachelors degree in Commerce and Post Graduate degree in Carnatic Music. He also holds Gana Alankar degree from Gandharva University, Maharashtra. 

Prabhakar served as a Music Instructor in N.S.M Public School at Vijayawada for 14 years and passionately composed number of songs in addition to developing the art of teaching students with compassion and patience. Hundreds of students have received multiple recognitions and awards both at state and national level under his guidance.

In 1995, Prabhakar became an approved composer for Akasa Vani All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan. He is currently a grade 1 Music Director in Doordarshan and Classical, Light and Devotional Vocal music artiste in AIR. He is a board member in All India Radio and Doordarshan auditions and serves as Member of Panel of Examiners in several universities. He is the founder and director of SS Music Academy which was established in 1997, where he teaches vocal and instrumental music for hundreds of aspiring students. In a career spanning over four decades, he has established a reputation as one of the well-known artistes in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, nationally and internationally.
